The Beit Medrash that Mori VeRebbi loved, has - despite all the challenges and difficulties - begun zman kayitz with the challenging study of the 8th perek of Baba Batra. What better way to pay tribute to Rav Aharon upon his fifth yahrzeit than to continue to nurture the garden he invested so much of his passion and energy into, so that it should continue to bear the sweet fruit of Torah. With Yom Haazmaut approaching, the topic at hand traces the very roots of our rights to Eretz Yisrael, whether beginning at the time Hashem promised the Land to Avraham, the time ot Yetziat Mizrayim or at the conquest of Yehoshua. We will try to show how a halakhic analysis of this topic connects to a basic issue which Mori VeRebbi stressed lies at the root of the opportunities and responsibilities of the yishuv in Eretz Yisrael and all who choose to be part of it. Yehi zikhro barukh.
