Harav Yehuda Amital Commitment vs. "Connecting" - The Current Crisis of our Youth One of the cornerstones of Judaism is commitment. However, the very concept of commitment today faces a severe crisis. What are the roots of this crisis and what can be done about it? Sichot Roshei Yeshiva
Harav Yehuda Amital Yitro and the Receiving of the Torah After we read, in last week's parasha, about the Exodus from Egypt and the splitting of the sea, we would have expected this week's parasha to start with a description of the Revelation at Sinai and the receiving of the Torah. It is surprising, then, that this account is preceded by the story of Yitro. What does Yitro have to do with the unfolding of the great redemption that is being recounted in this series of parashot? Sichot Roshei Yeshiva
Harav Yehuda Amital To Be In Need, To Seek Perfection, The Story Of The Megilla Purim is a holiday of paradox: the complete person is the one who feels incomplete, and the incomplete person is the one who feels complete. Sichot Roshei Yeshiva
Harav Yehuda Amital “When a Man Dies in a Tent…” This week's parasha exemplifies the tension between accepting mitzvot regardless of whether we understand them, and the need to exert ourselves to the utmost to comprehend the Torah. Sichot Roshei Yeshiva
Harav Yehuda Amital The Messages of Elul Our aim during Elul has to be the raising of the standards in all our personal characteristics. In this world we can increase our fear of Heaven with little effort. We can achieve integrity at little cost. Opportunities abound to increase our honesty. We go to the synagogue, buy kosher food, recite birkat ha-mazon. These things are so easy to do, but they must be elevated. If the basic standards which we expect from ourselves are raised, everything becomes much more difficult. Fear of Heaven is a great thing, and so is faith; so is love of mitzvot. We have to raise the standard. Sichot Roshei Yeshiva
Harav Yehuda Amital The Meaning of Redemption What is the meaning of redemption in a religious sense? In this sicha, we will note that it is not necessarily implicit in the return of the Jewish People to the Land of Israel. Sichot Roshei Yeshiva
